Jamal Crawford Thinks Suns Should Give Carmelo Anthony a Shot

Former Suns guard Jamal Crawford believes the Phoenix Suns should give free agent Carmelo Anthony an opportunity.

Last October, Bally Sports' Brandon 'Scoop B' Robinson tweeted free agent forward Carmelo Anthony was drawing some interest from three teams: the Golden State Warriors, Phoenix Suns, and New York Knicks.

Last month, Suns guard Chris Paul was asked about Anthony by the New York Daily News. Paul reacted by sharing that the future Hall of Famer deserves a better ending to his career.

“Melo is one of the best to ever play the game,” Paul said of Anthony via Stefan Bondy of New York Daily News. “I’m obviously biased and hope he’s in the league soon because somebody of that caliber, with that ability, with the heart that he has, and the stuff he’s done for the game — he should be able to walk off the court when he’s ready.”

Anthony also has the respect of Devin Booker as well. When the NBA and Knicks posted a video on Instagram of Anthony acknowledging the crowd at Madison Square Garden, Booker commented, "STAY ME7O."

On Tuesday night after the Los Angeles Clippers & Golden State Warriors game during the postgame show on TNT, Jamal Crawford said, "I mean will Carmelo get a flyer now with Phoenix? There's a guy like Isaiah Thomas getting a flyer. With spacing another guard you just never know, but the good thing I love about it's so open. Every team believes they can win. If they do that they're going to make that move. They're not going to think twice about it."

Anthony wants to be in the NBA and he made that clear with ESPN's Malika Andrews earlier this season.

“I want to be [in the NBA]. I love the game. But I realize there’s a lot of things that’s not in my control. So I can sit back and let it play out, and whatever it’s going to be, it’s going to be and I accept that. I’m at peace with that," said Anthony.

“I would love to play. I’m still in the gym every single day. If the opportunity presents itself, it presents itself. But it’s not something I’m pressing about.”

The Suns are currently 32-27, good enough for 4th in the Western Conference. Phoenix will host the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday night.
