Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Josh Giddey Lead OKC to 55th Win in Blowout Versus San Antonio

Oklahoma City took down an injured San Antonio Spurs team convincingly on Wednesday night.

On its third game in four nights, Oklahoma City was able to take a relatively easy one at home on the back end of a back-to-back, defeating a depleted San Antonio Spurs team 127-89.

With the win, the Thunder's hopes of the one seed still certainly remain alive with the impending result of Wednesday night's Denver Nuggets-Minnesota Timberwolves matchup. Their 55th win on the season, this is the first time Oklahoma City has reached this feat since the 2015-16 season.

It was Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's game for the first two and a half quarters on the evening, as he'd end with 26 points, six boards and five assists in just 26 minutes in the blowout.

Josh Giddey's effort was arguably just as impressive, showing off his typical facilitating repertoire and recorded a near triple-double with 20 points, 12 boards and seven assists in 29 minutes.

For the Spurs, Zach Collins paced his team with 20 points and seven boards in the absence of Victor Wembanyama.

The first quarter went as expected for an injury-bugged Spurs team, as the Thunder got out to an 11-0 start behind multiple trips to the free throw line and a quick start for Giddey.

Gilgeous-Alexander's second game back again showed his return back to full force following a 40-point outing the night before, as he had himself another double-digit first quarter to give Oklahoma City a 23-point lead by the end of the frame. 11 points for Gilgeous-Alexander and 11 for Giddey anchored them into the second, and matched the Spurs' first quarter point total of 11.

The second quarter was one for the bench unit, and of course Gilgeous-Alexander as well. And it was also a quarter for great separation.

Gordon Hayward, Kenrich Williams, Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins all found themselves in the scoring column throughout the frame, while Giddey nearly notched a double-double with 18 points. Gilgeous-Alexander would match him again, having 18 on just 10 shots.

The Thunder held the Spurs to just 35 points on 28.6% shooting in the half, marking it the lowest they've held a team to in a single half on the season. It was also an overwhelming pace from Oklahoma City, who had 22 fast break points in the half.

The second half went more or less the same.

The Thunder pulled most of its starters around the middle of the third frame being up by 37. Giddey would stay in the contest however, and helped sustain the team's pace of play while adding onto his impressive body of work throughout the entire game.

Into the fourth up 34, their were no brakes being pulled. Firing from three, Gordon Hayward added on to his ultimate 18 points in the game to extend the lead even further early into the frame.

Adam Flagler, a big piece of the Thunder's G League affiliate OKC Blue, stepped on the court for the Thunder for the second time in his career. This time, he'd sink a three ball for his first NBA points to bring Oklahoma CIty up by 41.

The Spurs would not be able to push back at any point, as their injuries inhibited them fully. With this win in the books, the Thunder has just two games left to play on the season.

Next, the Thunder continue their home stand versus the Milwaukee Bucks, who will compete without Giannis Antetokounmpo, at 7 p.m. on Friday.
