One Alarming Stat The Wizards Need To Improve

One Area In Particular The Wizards Need To Work On

In the NBA today, scoring is at an all time high. There isn’t much post play in the NBA either. That actually may be why scoring is at an all time high. The game was much slower back in the day. The game’s top players were big guys. Those NBA greats many may recall to mind are guys like Tim Duncan who many consider the greatest power forward of all time, Shaquille O’Neal who many consider the most dominant of all time, Chris Webber, Kevin Garnett, Jermaine O’Neal, Yao Ming, Dwight Howard, Amare Stoudemire, and many more!

The battle of the big men goes further than the early 2000’s. The list of greats from that time include guys like Kareem Abdul-Jabbarr, Hakeem Olajuwon, Wilt Chamberlain, Patrick Ewing, and still even more that will make this conversation go on longer.

Those big guys were considered back to the basket players. They focused on either getting two points in the paint or one point from the free throw line. Nowadays, big guys like that are rare. The bigs in today’s game are bringing the ball up court, scoring off the dribble, and making a lot of three pointers. They are even able to get plenty of and one shots too.

That makes defense even harder nowadays. That is something the Washington Wizards know all about. This has certainly been a rough year for them. However, it is almost rock bottom to be giving up the most points per game even if scoring is at an all time high. This is one stat that you don’t want to be known for. The inability to rebound is completely understandable as they don’t have a lot of depth at the center position. However, giving up the most points in the entire league is a bit embarrassing.

Yes, the Wizards are giving up over 124 points per game this season. This may explain all of the losing streaks this season. That may even explain all of the trades this year too, especially to key players such as former Wizard Center Daniel Gafford. The Wizards will probably focus on a franchise big man in the draft or even free agency this summer as they have to do something to anchor the defense in one shape or form.
