Could the Bills Bring Back The Red Helmets

NFL rule changes and nostalgia for the 1990s could drive the Bills to create a third helmet

Fans have been waiting a long time for the Bills to bring back the red helmet, and this week fans dreams got a little closer as an NFL memo was sent to teams confirming an expansion of the league's already loosened uniform policy.

Teams are allowed to pair their third alternate helmet with existing alternate, classic, or color rush uniforms. However, there's a catch: each alternate helmet must be specifically linked to a particular uniform set, preventing "mix-and-match" scenarios with primary uniforms or other optional uniform combinations.

This news reignites the dream of a uniform throwback to the team's glory days of the 1990s. That era was synonymous with a striking red helmet, a look many fans would love to see return.

While the 2024 redesign window has passed for the Bills, perhaps the expanded options in 2025 could open the door for a nostalgic return to red.
