Broncos’ Russell Wilson Rumored ‘Full-Time Starter’ for Many NFL Teams
While the era of Russell Wilson with the Denver Broncos is seeming to have neared its end, it doesn't mean we've seen the last of the 9x Pro Bowler suiting up in the NFL. All signs are pointing to this pairing eventually splitting across this offseason, but it looks as if it's a situation multiple teams around the league are keeping a keen eye on.
ESPN's NFL insider Jeremy Fowler appeared on SportsCenter, discussing what the future holds Wilson in the league. "I've talked to several teams who still believe he's a full-time starter," he said. "There's a job for him somewhere."
Wilson is coming off a bit of a resurgence from his previous campaign in Denver. He threw for 3,070 passing yards in 15 games, accompanied by 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Even with the fit not working out alongside head coach Sean Payton, it doesn't mean the league has given up on him as a whole.
A good chunk of the NFL will be in the market to bring in a new quarterback. Teams like the Atlanta Falcons, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Las Vegas Raiders stick out as squads who could be coveting a new player at the position. If Wilson ends up in free agency as expected, don't be surprised to see one of them investigate adding his services to the roster.
If Wilson ends up released from the Broncos as expected, it opens the door for any opposing team to come in and offer him a considerably cheaper deal to suit up for them. For the type of production he put forth last season in Denver, he could be a viable option for many squads who sit just be a quarterback away from contention.
It remains to be seen who rises to the top to acquire Wilson this summer, but it will no doubt be an intriguing storyline to keep track of. In the meantime, fans will have to await the looming March 17th date, which would be the latest the Broncos could end up cutting him to avoid paying him an additional $39 million in guaranteed money.
