Browns Owner Hints Cleveland May Not Be Done With Helmet Updates

Browns minority owner JW Johnson joined Cleveland Browns Daily on Wednesday and hinted that they may not be done with helmet updates for 2024.

The Cleveland Browns began the next era of their uniform and logo on Wednesday when they dropped their new logo, the helmet with a white facemask in place of the brown.

For outsiders, this seems like a totally insignificant change but for the Cleveland faithful, this is a call-back to the heyday of this franchise. A throwback to the Cardiac Kids, to Brian Sipe, to playoff runs, to the original Dawg Pound, to Municipal Stadium and all of the great memories that used to be Cleveland Browns football.

The initial wave of excitement is hitting, but the Browns may not be done.

At the beginning of April, the NFL approved a rule stating that franchises have the ability to add a third helmet to their rotation. Just two years ago, 2022 was the first year of the second helmet color and now in 2024, teams will have an opportunity to sport a third helmet.

Browns minority owner JW Johnson went on Cleveland Browns Daily and hinted that Cleveland may not be done with their helmet updates and are "exploring" what a third helmet color might look like. What would the options be?

The obvious first answer here would be a brown helmet, but they would have to be incredibly precise in their execution or else that could have a negative reaction. Many teams are able to throw out a black alternate but that is off the table in Cleveland. Could they look at a softer orange, maybe with their numbers on the side, circa 2021?

Perhaps the simple answer is that they don't create a third and they go into 2024 with exactly what they have now, an orange option and a white option. Whatever they decide to do, changing the facemask to white, stamps Cleveland as having one of the best uniform combinations in all of the NFL.
