When Will Browns Know If They'll Face Eagles To Open Season In Brazil?

The Browns are one of two teams in the running to face the Eagles in Brazil to open up the 2024 regular season as league commissioner Roger Goodell expects a decision to be made on their opponent soon.

Browns fans considering a trip to Brazil this fall will know soon enough if they should start making travel arrangements.

Speaking at the annual owner's meetings on Tuesday, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told a gallery of reporters that a decision on the Eagles Week 1 opponent for a first of its kind game played in Sau Paolo Brazil will be announced "within the next week." According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, that decision could even come as early as Thursday.

Additional reporting has noted for weeks now that the Browns are one of two teams being considered to serve as the visiting team against Philadelphia for the contest. The Green Bay Packers are the other team in contention for the matchup. If chosen, Cleveland would open up its 2024 campaign in South America on Friday, September 6.

While the league mulls over that decision, it did officially announce that Peackcock has secured the exclusive streaming rights for the game. That's notable for out of market fans, should the Browns are are ultimately selected to play in what will be the first Friday night game during the opening week of the season in more than 50 years. Locally the game would be shown on NBC.

Since the NFL started playing international games in 2007 the Browns have been featured in only one contest to this point. In 2017, Cleveland traveled to London to take on the Vikings. Minnesota won the game 33-16.

For what it's worth, the Packers have also only played in one international game to this point as well.
