The morning after an ugly brawl between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns, the NFL has come out with a statement, dishing out penalties. First, each franchise was fined $250,000. Beyond that, Browns defensive end Myles Garrett has been suspended for the rest of the season and playoffs, be fined, and have to talk to the commissioner about reinstatement for next season. Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey has been suspended for three games and Browns defensive tackle gets one game. Notably absent, at least at this point, is any punishment as it pertains to Mason Rudolph. The players do have the ability to appeal the penalties.

The Browns are 4-6 and are trying to keep their dim playoff hopes alive, will have to play without two starting defensive linemen next week against the Miami Dolphins and will be without their star pass rusher for the rest of the season. In a season full of disappointment for the Browns, they appeared to be at least giving themselves a chance to get back on track, but this is another misstep for a franchise that cannot get out of its own way.

The Steelers lose their starting center for three games. They should be able to get through that without too much trouble as B.J. Finney is a solid backup option.
