Tuesday was yet another reminder that NFL Players experience some of the most unique challenges throughout the midst of a season.

The top-tier players have security in their positions and are rarely worried about being sent on the move at any point during the NFL season. As for the players that fill out rosters and are on smaller contracts, each day could be their last at their current franchise. The latter actually makes up the vast majority of players in the league.

A trade in the NFL for these players is far more than just an Adam Schefter tweet notification. Instead, a trade is more of an immediate uprooting of their lives and a move to a place that they had no choice in picking. For Josh Dobbs, the 2023 season was one of a kind even by his standards as a true NFL journeyman.

The fifth-year veteran began his career by spending two seasons in Pittsburgh before being traded to Jacksonville in 2019. He spent one calendar year in Jacksonville before being cut and heading back to western Pennsylvania for his second stint with the Steelers. He was then put on injured reserve during the 2021 season and signed with the Browns at the beginning of 2022.

When Watson returned from his suspension, Dobbs was cut and signed with the Detroit Lions practice squad. His time in Detroit didn't last long because he was picked up off the practice squad by the Tennessee Titans at the end of December. After not making the playoffs, Dobbs again was a free agent and returned north on another stint with the Cleveland Browns.

During the preseason, Dobbs was traded to the Arizona Cardinals with the intent of being their starter during the absence of Kyler Murray, who was recovering from surgery. For eight weeks he led the lowly Cardinals before being dealt to the Minnesota Vikings after Kirk Cousins experienced a season ending injury.

That is truly exhausting to type and read. In many ways, the rocky journey was likely not all sunshine and rainbows for Dobbs either.

With Adam Schefter, Dobbs relived what the 2023 season was like for him. He talked about how nice it was to live in his old Cleveland apartment. Then when he went to Arizona, Dobbs and his girlfriend were moving into a nice place right before being dealt to Minnesota. They really didn't have much time to settle in at all.

Dobbs' story is just another reminder that these guys aren't video game characters and while they are paid a king's ransom, they experience some really unique challenges along the way.
