The Cleveland Browns took to the practice field today in Berea for their final practice ahead of the season opener on Sunday against the Bengals. Starting safety Juan Thornhill is being held out of practice for a second consecutive day for a calf injury that the extent of is still unknown.

Thornhill popped up on the teams injury report after practice on Wednesday when he was a limited participant. Not being able to practice today is a huge concern relating to his status playing almost 48 hours from now. If Thornhill is unable to go it would mean that veteran safety Rodney McCloud would get the start in his place.

It would also increase the likelihood of rookie safety Ronnie Hickman playing snaps on defense in his first NFL game. The team already has its hands full trying to slowdown one of the leagues best passing attacks. The absence of Thornhill would make that challenge an even bigger one. One positive note is that Denzel Ward practiced for the third straight day recovering from his concussion.

Head Coach Kevin Stefanski will address the media following practice and will give updates on both starters and possibly their status for the game on Sunday.

Update: Head Coach Kevin Stefanski said that Thornhill's status for Sunday is listed as questionable. He said that the team will see how it progresses over the next 48 hours and it will be a game time decision. When he was asked about the timing of the injury Stefanski said that he wasn't exactly sure when it occurred but it was something that had been bothering Thornhill a bit and they are being extremely cautious with it.
