49ers GM John Lynch Contacts Tom Brady After Retirement Announcement

Former Buc, John Lynch, talked about a message he shared with Tom Brady.

Tom Brady submitted his official retirement letter to the NFL and NFLPA on February 10th, ultimately confirming that the greatest quarterback of all-time will indeed retire for good and has no plans of returning to the football gridiron.

Even with his official documentation turned in, there hasn't been a lackluster of speculation regarding if Brady could indeed come back out of retirement and continue to play.

During press conferences at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana, former Tampa Bay Buccaneer great and current San Francisco 49ers' General Manager, John Lynch, confirmed that he had a text exchange with Brady following his retirement on February 1st.

“I sent him a text when he retired,” Lynch told reporters on Tuesday, February 28, at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. “He was a teammate for about three weeks at one point, so I sent him a text, ‘Congratulations.’ One of the greatest careers that I’ve ever seen in any sport.’ I wished him the best. We will leave it at that.”

And Brady's response,

“I got a thumbs up,” Lynch said.

The 49ers were continually one of the teams mentioned that Brady could potentially go to if he decided not to retire and move on from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 49ers have both Trey Lance and Brock Purdy on their roster heading into next season and will have a tough QB battle once both are fully healthy coming off of injuries. Lynch even spoke on the fact that they intend to look at all options when it comes to their quarterback room.

Report: Veteran Offensive Lineman Expected to be Released by the Buccaneers

Now, although a moot point, many around the league believe that Brady is indeed playing the game he gave so much of his life too; including Buccaneers' GM, Jason Licht.

Brady is retired and there is not much out there to suggest that he has any inkling of coming out of that retirement. The questions will continue, but any links or conspiracy theories should be put to rest as the offseason progresses into the 2023 NFL season.
