On Thursday afternoon Buccaneers' general manager Jason Licht spoke with the media during a scheduled pre-draft press conference to answer a variety of questions regarding the 2023 NFL Draft. Although, there was one big question mark for Licht that had nothing to do with the upcoming draft but had to do with one of his star defensive players.

This has been a rather interesting week for Tampa Bay after Super Bowl champion and veteran Pro Bowl star linebacker Devin White reportedly asked to be traded. White is supposedly "fed up" with the organization and where his relationship is at with the team.

Rick Stroud from the Tampa Bay Times reported that the Buccaneers have no intentions of trading away their veteran linebacker to another team but there is a whole different conversation to be had on if White's play is worth the projected $20+ million per year contract some have projected him to receive.

During Thursday's press conference, Licht commented on where the future lies between White and Tampa Bay and the game plan moving forward with his Pro Bowl linebacker.

Licht feels optimistic that things will get settled between both parties and is looking forward to White being a key player on defense for the Buccaneers next season.

White's play in 2022 was once again impressive totaling 124 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 8 tackles for loss, and 16 quarterback hits. He's most certainly expecting to be paid at a certain caliber, likely near Ravens' linebacker Roquan Smith's deal in Baltimore which is five years for $100 million.
