Cardinals Miss on Potential Trade Target

Haason Reddick has been traded - but not to the Arizona Cardinals.

ARIZONA -- The Arizona Cardinals were a team rumored to be in the mix for Philadelphia Eagles LB Haason Reddick, though the move won't happen after today's reports.

From ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter:

"Eagles are sending edge-rusher Haason Reddick to the New York Jets for a conditional 2026 third-round pick that could be a second, sources tell ESPN. The 2026 pick becomes a 2nd if Reddick has 67.5% playtime this season and has 10 or more sacks. If not, it’s a 2023 third."

Schefter also added in a later tweet, "Haason Reddick does not have a new deal with the Jets and is now entering the last year of his contract. If the Jets don’t extend him and he leaves in free agency, the Jets would get a compensatory pick. So they’re giving up a pick and if they lose him, would get one back."

The Cardinals - who initially drafted Reddick - were listed as a potential destination for the edge rusher by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler:

"The expectation leaguewide is that he is moved at some point. The Eagles went and spent on Bryce Huff, they re-signed Josh Sweat, so they have their two pass rushers. Reddick appears to be the odd man out. He does want a new deal, but this is a premier guy that should have value. He wants a new contract, plus the draft capital that it's going to take to get him. Arizona could be a team to watch because Jonathan Gannon was with him two years ago in Philly. They had good production together. Arizona needs pass rushers." - Jeremy Fowler

Arizona would have bolstered their pass-rush with Reddick's presence in the desert, though they could now turn to the 2024 NFL Draft (where they have ample amounts of draft capital) to bring in a fresh face to pair with Zaven Collins and B.J. Ojulari.
