Cardinals Dubbed Landing Spot for Fastest Draft WR

Arizona could add some serious speed with Xavier Worthy.

ARIZONA -- There's no hiding the Arizona Cardinals' interest in adding a premier weapon to their wide receiver depth in 2024.

After trading away Rondale Moore and seeing Marquise Brown walk in free agency, the Cardinals look to pair a prominent name with Michael Wilson and Greg Dortch to lead the charge heading into 2024 and beyond.

Arizona added Chris Moore in free agency, though the Cardinals are in prime position to add elite WR talent coming out of the 2024 NFL Draft. Names such as Marvin Harrison Jr., Rome Odunze and Malik Nabers are top options when draft night rolls around, and Arizona is reportedly meeting with all three ahead of the big night.

Yet there's another potential option that makes sense for Arizona in Texas wideout Xavier Worthy, who is fresh off breaking the NFL Combine 40-yard dash record with a 4.21 time. Speed is something the Cardinals lost with both Brown/Moore departing, and Bleacher Report believes Worthy is a good fit in the desert.

After working through potential trade-down scenarios for the Cardinals, Brent Sobleski offered the following on why Arizona is a prime destination:

"If that occurs, wide receiver still remains a need. With Marquise Brown and Rondale Moore no longer on the roster, the Cardinals will likely add a top target either through the pick they acquire via speculated trade or their second first-round selection, which is 27th overall thanks to last year's draft-day deal with the Houston Texans," wrote Sobleski.

"The latter is likely a better option for Worthy. Some of the concerns that once surrounded Brown and Moore, i.e. slight statures, exist for the Texas product, but it's not enough to scare the Cardinals away. In fact, he is set to make an official visit with the organization, according to Fowler.

"With more physical targets like Michael Wilson and tight end Tre McBride already on the roster, a faster and more dynamic option may be the right path toward building a better passing game."

The Cardinals are slated to have six picks in the first three rounds of the draft and could address the position multiple times throughout the three-day event with double-digit selections on hand.

Worthy's NFL.com scouting report:

"Worthy’s draft slotting could come down to draft-room debates weighing his elite speed versus his thin frame. Worthy will find separation if allowed to explore vertically or across the hashes against man coverage, but he lacks play strength and release quickness to defeat a quality NFL press. His quick-strike potential adds an element of danger over the top and should open wider windows for teammates to work into. He lacks the physical tools to catch when contested and needs to prove he can hold up to a more physical brand of football. Worthy is a niche prospect for teams looking to add a legit field-stretcher, but areas of concern could create a wider gap between ceiling and floor." - Lance Zierlein

Arizona holds picks 4 and 27 in the first round.
