LSU DT Visits Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals are wrapping up their visits with LSU DT Maason Smith.

ARIZONA -- The Arizona Cardinals are concluding their visits with prospects entering the 2024 NFL Draft this week with LSU DT Maason Smith, per Justin Melo of The Draft Network.

"I started off in New Orleans with the Saints last week. I flew to Cincinnati and Pittsburgh. I also met with the Jets and Giants. I went to Minnesota, Buffalo, Green Bay, and Charlotte. I just got back from Arizona. I have a few more visits coming up later this week," Smith told Melo in an interview.

"I’m going to continue getting better at the next level. I think my potential means I can do whatever I need to do to be whoever I want to be. The sky’s the limit for me. I’m looking forward to reaching that potential."

The Cardinals signed Justin Jones and Bilal Nichols out of free agency, though Arizona would still be favored to add to their defensive line depth for the future. The Cardinals rotate their defensive front heavily.

More from his draft profile on NFL.com:

"Traits-based prospect with an exciting ceiling but a concerning lack of experience and consistency. Smith plays tall and lacks the anchor and hand usage to keep from being mashed out of gaps by double-teams. The measurables and playing style have him best suited to play as a 3-4 defensive end, where he will have an opportunity to better utilize his length at the point of attack. Smith flashes as a pass rusher with a healthy blend of footwork and victories to the edge, which should keep improving with additional skill work. He has early round traits but middle-round tape. Smith requires scheme fit and patience if he’s to reach his potential, but he should be no worse than a viable backup." - Lance Zierlein

The Cardinals have 11 total picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, which begins on April 25.
