Who is Cardinals Most Underpaid Player?

There's a few candidates who could see a future pay raise.

ARIZONA -- When it comes to overpaid players, there's always interesting arguments for who does -and doesn't - deserve their paychecks.

Only four Cardinals carry cap hits of $10+ million entering 2024 - one of which is D.J. Humphries, who was a designated post-June 1 cut. It's tough to argue the likes of Kyler Murray (well, depending on which fan you talk to), Budda Baker and Jalen Thompson being paid their eight-figure salaries.

More so, discussing the most underpaid player in Arizona might be a more fun topic of conversation. The Cardinals are in year two of their rebuild under head coach Jonathan Gannon/general manager Monti Ossenfort, and Bleacher Report believes starting center Hjalte Froholdt is Arizona's most underpaid player:

"The 27-year-old 2019 fourth-round pick looked well on track to becoming a journeyman backup before excelling mightily in the first season of a two-year, $4.6 million deal in Arizona. He is in line to make some serious coin in 2025," wrote Brad Gognon.

Strictly only looking at cap hits, we have a few other candidates that can take the cake, too:

OG Will Hernandez - It's arguable that Hernandez was Arizona's best/most consistent offensive lineman last season. It feels like he's certainly set to again out-perform a low cap hit, which sits at $5.3 million for 2024.

TE Trey McBride - McBride is already one of the better tight ends in the NFL, and if McBride can again take the next step to the top tier of players at his position next year, his $1.7 million cap hit will be mere peanuts to his production.

WR Greg Dortch - Dortch finally gets his opportunity to shine with Rondale Moore's departure. His $1.1 million cap hit for 2024 could very easily look like chump change if he stays healthy and gets more advantageous opportunities.
