Former Cardinals First-Round Pick Re-Signs With Giants

Isaiah Simmons is heading back to New York.

ARIZONA -- Former Arizona Cardinals first-round pick Isaiah Simmons is re-signing with the New York Giants, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport.

Simmons was dealt to the Giants at the beginning of last season for a seventh-round pick. Many believe Simmons - who had issues with Arizona's prior regime due to his placement on the field - could play either safety, corner or linebacker at the pro level.

After utilizing Simmons across the board, the Cardinals didn't like what they saw and promptly decided to cut bait with the former No. 8 overall pick. This come months after Arizona declined his fifth-year option.

Simmons played in all 17 games for the Giants with four starts. Simmons had 50 combined tackles with one interception and three passes defensed for New York.

Simmons hasn't yet turned 26-years-old and still offers athletic potential, though it's clear his versatility at the college ranks hasn't translated to the pro level. After telling Arizona's new staff he didn't want to play linebacker, the Giants utilized him most at the position while also featuring him as an edge rusher and slot corner last season.

The Cardinals currently have the No. 4 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft while the Giants aren't far behind with No. 6 at their possession.
