Cardinals Landing Spot for Chargers WR?

The Arizona Cardinals could look to sign Mike Williams.

ARIZONA -- The Arizona Cardinals are in the market for a wide receiver - and perhaps former Los Angeles Chargers WR Mike Williams could be of service.

With the Chargers needing to get under the salary cap at the beginning of the 2024 NFL league year yesterday, Williams was released.

Williams will turn 30 in October and has had two 1,000-yard seasons with the Chargers playing behind Keenan Allen. He has played a full season just once in his seven years of service and is coming off a torn ACL suffered in Week 3 of last season.

Sports Illustrated's Tom Dierberger named Arizona one of six landing spots for Williams:

"The Cardinals appear set to select the top receiver in the 2024 NFL draft—most likely Marvin Harrison Jr.—with the No. 4 pick. Adding Williams to the mix could be a solid addition to quarterback Kyler Murray’s offense, especially if Marquise Brown—the Cardinals’ top wide receiver in ’23—signs elsewhere in free agency."

Other landing spots include the Kansas City Chiefs, New York Jets, New England Patriots, Chicago Bears and New York Giants.

Williams' 6-4 frame would provide the Cardinals a big-body receiver that can produce when healthy, something Arizona hasn't had since DeAndre Hopkins departed.

Would the Cardinals pursue Williams? Arizona's free agent haul thus far has primarily highlighted two factors: availability and youth - both of which Williams isn't exactly a glaring example of at the moment.

Should the Cardinals be able to get Williams on an extremely team-friendly deal, his presence would certainly be welcome.
