New Mock Draft Projects LA To Draft OT With Top Pick

The Los Angeles Chargers hold one of the more impactful picks of the upcoming NFL Draft. The team doesn't need a quarterback, but with the top-heavy quarterback class, they could find themselves grabbing the best non-quarterback on the board.

The team is expected to take either a wide receiver or offensive lineman with the pick, given that they keep it. There has been talk about the Chargers looking to trade back to gain more draft capital.

One latest mock draft has the Bolts taking the top offensive tackle in the draft class. Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda has the Bolts keeping their fifth overall selection and using it to beef up the offensive line by taking Joe Alt out of Notre Dame.

"At the combine, I consistently heard that the Chargers will look at offensive tackle or trade down if a quarterback is available at this point. Alt fits what head coach Jim Harbaugh wants up front on offense."

Grabbing Alt would instantly bolster the Chargers offensive line, which caused major problems last season. He is the best tackle in the draft and Los Angeles could build around him moving forward.

Harbaugh loves to build his teams within the trenches, as his goal is to wear down opponents as the game goes on. His coaching philosophy has been to have strong offensive and defensive lines, with a strong running game and it has worked out well for him so far.

If the Bolts were to select Alt here, it would be another sign that Harbaugh is building this team for long-term sustained success. After finishing 5-12 last season, the Bolts know that they may not completely transform overnight, but building slowly through the draft and free agency, they can become contenders again.

This would be a home run selection for Los Angeles and one that would help benefit the organization for years to come. Protecting the quarterback is a priority one for all football teams and the Bolts should be looking to make it happen.
