Chargers News: Bolts Poach Cornerback From Division Rival to Replace JC Jackson

Chargers working fast here.

The Los Angeles Chargers have found their J.C. Jackson replacement. On Wednesday, just hours after shipping Jackson to the New England Patriots, the Chargers reportedly claimed former Denver Broncos CB Essang Bassey off waivers. NFL reporter Ian Rapoport reported the news.

The Chargers shockingly traded Jackson Wednesday morning after a disappointing tenure in Los Angeles that saw him play just seven games across 2022 and 2023 and make one interception.

The team traded him to New England just for a pick swap, clearly wanting to move on from the massive five-year, $85 million deal they gave him last offseason.

Now, the team added Bassey from Denver, who was waived on Tuesday. Bassey appeared in all four games to open the Broncos' season, recording eight tackles.

Bassey has one career interception from the 2020 season in Denver. Then, in 2021, he played with both the Broncos and Chargers, before returning to Denver full time in 2022 and the beginning of 2023. Bassey recorded one tackle in one game with the Chargers in 2021.

Bassey will provide some depth in the secondary for the Chargers, and hope to make an impact on the struggling defense.
