Chargers News: AFC East Squad Thinks 'Very Highly' Of Mike Williams

But should they, though?

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams can't seem to stay healthy. And yet, somehow, he remains an appetizing piece for rival clubs.

Williams seems liable to get cut by the Bolts this summer in a cost-cutting venture.

Connor Hughes of SNY.tv speculated that the New York Jets might be interested in inking Williams to a new deal.

The 6'4", 218-pound Clemson product played sparingly last season. He was limited to a scant three contests in 2023 for a stymied 5-12 Los Angeles offense that badly could have used his services. Williams caught 19 receptions on 26 targets for 249 total yards (averaging 13.1 yards per carry) and one touchdown.

He inked a three-year, $60 million agreement with the Chargers in 2022, and will have a base salary of $17 million (but a cap hit of $32.5 million) if he stays on his current deal.

Operating as the club's WR2 next to six-time Pro Bowler Keenan Allen, Williams has yet to fully achieve his full potential. Given that the team has a new head coach in Jim Harbaugh and a new general manager in Joe Hortiz, it's unclear if LA will have the patience to retain him long enough for that to happen. Or if it should.
