Could Chargers Make Trade For Former AFC Pro Bowl WR?

And should they?

Your Los Angeles Chargers have an intriguing, challenging summer ahead of them.

After a 2023 season so miserable it compelled LA owner Dean Spanos to clean house before it even wrapped up with a dismal 5-12 record, Spanos' hand-picked new brain trust of head coach Jim Harbaugh and general manager Joe Hortiz will work to build out their roster around 26-year-old star quarterback Justin Herbert.

According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, the Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly amenable to offers for former Pro Bowl wide receiver Diontae Johnson. Russini notes that Johnson is receiving "interested from teams around the league as GMs are getting set for free agency."

Johnson, still just 27, was named a Second-Team All-Pro in 2019, and a Pro Bowler in 2021. During that Pro Bowl season, he caught 107 receptions on 169 targets for a total of 1,161 yards and eight touchdowns.

The 5'10", 183-pound Toledo product missed an early portion of the 2023 season due to a hamstring injury. Even still, he appeared in 14 contests overall, notching 51 receptions on 717 total yards (for his highest average yards per carry yet, 14.1) and five touchdowns.

LA seems to be on the prowl for some wide receiver help. At 31, six-time Pro Bowler Keenan Allen isn't getting any younger, while Mike Williams' health has been a recurrent issue.
