Is Former SB Champion DL an Option for Bolts in Free Agency?
The Los Angeles Chargers have a ton of holes to fill on the team heading into the 2024 season, and it will be up to head coach Jim Harbaugh and GM Joe Hortiz to scour the free agency market to bolster the roster.
One such need for the team is on the defensive line. The Chargers could end up losing both Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa to free agency and as cap room casualties.
The need for an edge rusher is evident. While Morgan Fox has started to emerge as someone who could terrorize the QB, he needs someone next to him to ensure plays can be made to make opposing passers uncomfortable.
Enter former New England Patriots DL Lawrence Guy.
Guy has been a stalwart piece of the Patriots' defensive line, and he could serve as a strong veteran presence that would help guide the Charger's effort even more.
Guy may not have secured a multitude of sacks, but he could be the physical player that DC Jesse Minster needs to open up lanes for Fox, Mack, and Bosa—should they stay with the team.
The Chargers could also get Guy on a small one-year prove-it deal, which would work plenty considering the cap room issues that the team has. They restructured center Corey Linsley's contract, giving them $10 million off their -$45 million cap for 2024.
Even at -$35 million, the team will need to cut or restructure deals to ensure a host of new talent can join the team.
That means they will need to find some cheaper veteran talent, and Guy could be one such player.
