The Indianapolis Colts have confirmed that they’re retaining two of their core pieces on offense and defense.

After much speculation that both would be traded, center Ryan Kelly and cornerback Kenny Moore II are going to be with the team in 2023. Zac Keefer of The Athletic came forth with the news from Colts general manager Chris Ballard.

Per Ballard’s own words, “They’re both great Colts, and we’re glad they’re here.”

After a horrendous 2022 season that showed neither Kelly nor Moore much mercy, it was assumed they’d both be on the trade block. Despite the Colts receiving calls on both players, both will be staying home in Indianapolis. Kelly has been with the team since 2016 while Moore has been a Colt since 2017.

Kelly will come back with a chip on his shoulder. 2022 was a struggle for the former Pro Bowl center, at times. He would miss out on a Pro Bowl nomination for the first time in three consecutive years (2019-2021). With a new look and feel to the coaching staff, Kelly hopes to bounce back with a vengeance.

As for Moore, his return os perhaps even bigger news for the Colts. With how thin the depth at cornerback is for Indianapolis, Moore returning removes the need to fill a big void at the position.

Moore has been a solid player for the defense since 2017. Once he began finding more playing time in 2018, he only continued to get better. He would eventually earn his first and only Pro Bowl in 2021 with 102 total tackles, four interceptions, and an impressive 13 passes defended. Like Kelly, Moore will also look to bounce back after a down year.

Kelly and Moore are two names that many are glad to see back with the Colts. Now, Ballard doesn’t have to worry about finding a new commander of the offensive line at center or filling another spot at cornerback.

With the NFL draft around the corner, and free agency is chugging along, the next answers to who will fill out the remaining holes on the roster for the Colts will be here soon.
