Colts Re-Sign O-Lineman to Contract Extension
The Indianapolis Colts have extended a veteran player on the offensive side of the ball.
No it's not Michael Pittman Jr., who was franchise tagged by the Colts on Tuesday, retaining him for the 2024 season.
The veteran is center Jack Anderson, adding depth to an offensive line group that rebounded nicely in 2023.
While it's important to keep a pass-catcher like Pittman, it's also vital to have reliable and experienced depth on the offensive line. Anderson may not be a household name or a big-time starter, but he's had enough years in the NFL to be a nice backup in the trenches.
The former Texas Tech Red Raider has played guard and center throughout his three-year career. He's also had stints with the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants. This proves that other squads in the league valued his name on their depth chart.
With 15 games played since 2021, Anderson will provide diverse blocking on an Indy team that had some issues when the starters went down. With quarterback Anthony Richardson developing and coming off of major surgery on his throwing shoulder, it's key to keep as many veterans as possible to protect him in case injury occurs and another lineman has to step in.
The former seventh-round selection is listed as a center behind Pro Bowler Ryan Kelly and backup Wesley French. Look for the Colts to continue making roster moves as the combine is in the books, and the draft is just under two months away.
