Colts Add Depth At Safety With Local Tryout Signing

The Indianapolis Colts have signed a Warren Central grad to the roster who will compete for a spot on the team this fall.

While minicamp may be in the books for the Indianapolis Colts, the roster is always fluid.

Following the news of fifth-round pick Daniel Scott heading to the IR, the Colts announced Thursday morning the roster move of signing undrafted free agent Michael Tutsie.

Tutsie is a 5’10" safety out of North Dakota State who started 56 games. Tutsie left his mark all over the stat sheet in college, recording 338 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 11 interceptions, 22 pass deflections, two forced fumbles, and even a blocked kick. The safety was a very productive college player who stamped his name in North Dakota State’s history by ending his career with the second most solo tackles and fifth in total tackles in North Dakota State football’s history.

Tutsie is also a local kid. Growing up in Indianapolis, Tutsie attended Warren Central high school where he was teammates with Colts second-round pick JuJu Brents. Now they get to reunite as teammates in the NFL.

The Colts got a good look at Tutsie before electing to sign the safety, as they had him in for tryouts at both their rookie and veteran minicamp. He joins a young safety room in Indianapolis that includes the following players.

Nick Cross: 21 years old

Marcel Dabo:  23 years old

Julian Blackmon:  24 years old

Rodney Thomas II: 24 years old

Trevor Denbow: 24 years old

Aaron Maddox: 25 years old

Henry Black: 26 years old

Tutsie will likely be competing for a special teams role, but a reserve safety role will be up for grabs as well when the team's training camp gets underway over a month from now.
