Critics of the Washington Commanders often remind us that good times around here have been too few and far between. But good times might be on the horizon with the hiring of new coach Dan Quinn ... and Quinn's decision to retain Ryan Kerrigan seems a wise "bridge" move back to the good times that once were.

Kerrigan, 35, will stick on the Washington coaching staff under new head coach Quinn after having launched his coaching career two years ago as the assistant defensive line coach.

In his new role, Kerrigan will serve as the assistant linebackers coach/pass rush specialist while working under Quinn and new coordinator Joe Whitt Jr., both of whom come over from the Dallas Cowboys.

Kerrigan, a first-round pick in 2011 and named one of the 90 greatest players in franchise history, holds the Washington franchise record with 95.5 sacks after playing 10 seasons here.

He joined the Commanders as a coaching intern in 2022 under former head coach Ron Rivera and now he will be tutored by Quinn ... and will be tutoring a Washington roster looking for good times ahead.
