Sam Howell or Jacoby Brissett? Commanders Name Starting QB vs. 49ers

The Washington Commanders have dealt with some quarterback changes this week.

The Washington Commanders have made a decision in regards to who will start Sunday's game with the San Francisco 49ers.

According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, they are going back to Sam Howell, who will get the start against the 49ers..

Howell, Rivera, Brissett

Howell completed just six of 22 attempts on Sunday against the New York Jets for 56 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions. In relief, Jacoby Brissett went 10 of 13 for 100 yards and a score.

The previous week, Howell was also benched in favor of Brissett, who brought the Commanders to within a touchdown despite trailing by more than 20 points.

Brissett was signed in the offseason to be Howell's mentor, but after a 4-11 campaign, the Commanders wanted to see what they have in their backup to add some data for some tough decisions they will have to make this offseason. However, Brissett injured his hamstring in practice on Friday, making him questionable for today's game. Then, in warmups this morning, Brissett's hamstring didn't make enough progress for him to start.

The 49ers and Commanders are set to kick off at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
