Commanders WR Jahan Dotson: Potential Breakout Candidate in 2023?

Washington Commanders receiver Jahan Dotson had a decent rookie season and has now been tipped to be a breakout star next season.

Washington Commanders' second-year receiver Jahan Dotson wants to build on a decent rookie campaign.

With a revolving door at quarterback, Dotson still managed to put up numbers. He totaled 35 receptions for 523 yards and seven touchdowns in his 12 games.

With Eric Bieniemy now the new offensive coordinator, Dotson has a coach known as an offensive wizard, and a star receiver in Terry McLaurin beside him, this has CBS Sports listing Dotson as a potential breakout candidate next season.

"Dotson had an impressive rookie season in 2022, despite playing with three different quarterbacks," CBS Sports writes. "Establishing himself as a deep-ball receiver, Dotson finished with 35 catches for 523 yards and seven touchdowns -- as his 14.9 yards per catch was fourth highest in the NFC.

"Dotson tied Christian Watson for first in touchdown catches amongst rookies and was second in yards per catch among rookies (minimum 50 targets). Playing next to terry McLaurin will help Dotson make a big leap in 2023."

With a new offensive scheme and hopefully a more settled quarterback situation, it is easy to see why Dotson has been touted with "breakout" potential next season.

When lining up Dotson's efforts vs. other rookies last season, he was in the upper echelon of most. He ranked sixth in receptions (35), fifth in receiving yards, tied for first with seven receiving touchdowns, and fourth in yards per game (43.6).

In a new scheme and with a coordinator who loves to get his receivers the ball in space, Dotson could see his targets skyrocket, and his stats improve as a result.

Washington's new breakout star? You wouldn't put it past him.
