Commanders WR Jahan Dotson: Breakout Star In 2023?

Second-year wide receiver Jahan Dotson had a strong rookie season for the Washington Commanders in 2022.

With a new system under offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and a new quarterback in either Sam Howell or Jacoby Brissett, the Commanders' offense will look very different from 2022.

One of the holdovers from 2022 is second-year wide receiver, Jahan Dotson. After a strong rookie campaign, NFL.com tabbed Dotson as Washington's breakout star for the 2023 season.

"Dotson's three receptions for 72 yards really stood out to me," NFL.com writes. "He jumped off the film and was out there just blowing past Cowboys defenders. This is what the Commanders need this season."

Despite missing five games due to a hamstring injury, Dotson was one of Washington's most productive players on offense. Dotson caught 35 passes for 523 yards and seven touchdowns. He also had four straight games with a receiving touchdown in December.

Dotson had 12 catches for 152 yards and four touchdowns in four games before the injury.

Consistency and health will play a key role in determining if Dotson can become a breakout star for Washington. If Howell and Dotson's chemistry from their lone game together against the Dallas Cowboys on Jan. 8 translates to the 2023 season, it'll open up the Commanders' offense for wide receiver Terry McLaurin and running back Brian Robinson Jr. on the ground.

If Washington has an improved offensive system and better quarterback play, Dotson has the potential to be the Commanders' breakout star and become one of the better No. 2 wide receivers in the NFL if he stays healthy.
