Washington Commanders' Jahan Dotson on Touchdown: 'We Needed That'

Jahan Dotson had the game-tying touchdown for the Washington Commanders in the third quarter of their 20-17 win over the New England Patriots.

With the Washington Commanders' back up against the wall, after the New England Patriots extended their lead to a touchdown, they needed a response in the third quarter.

That response came in the form of a Jahan Dotson touchdown.

Sam Howell threw a deep pass for Dotson and he made an out-stretched grab in the end zone for a 33-yard touchdown to tie the game up 17-17 with 6:51 left in the third quarter.

The Commanders (4-5) went on to win 20-17 on Sunday at Gillette Stadium.

“It was a big play, we needed it," Dotson said. "Sam did a great job. He saw cover zero. We’ve been working on it all week. He gave me a chance to make a play for the team. I was able to capitalize.”

Washington Commanders receiver Jahan Dotson (1) and tight end John Bates (87) celebrate a touchdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1 of the NFL Season.

Jahan Dotson has 12 catches for 177 yards and two touchdowns in the last two weeks.

Dotson has begun to put things together over the last two weeks. He had four catches for 69 yards and a touchdown against the Patriots (2-7). On Oct. 29 in the Commanders' 38-31 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, the second-year receiver had his best performance of the season with eight catches for 108 yards and a touchdown. Dotson didn't have more than five catches for 43 yards this season prior to facing Philadelphia last week.

Heading into this season, Dotson appeared poised for a breakout season after having 35 catches for 523 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie last year. Dotson has gotten off to a slow start through nine games with 34 catches for 360 yards and three touchdowns, but has heated up over the last two weeks.

If Dotson can continue to perform like this, the Commanders' offense will have a chance to continue their stretch of good offensive performances in the weeks to come.
