Washington Commanders Had 'Ugly Road Win' Over Atlanta Falcons, Says Ron Rivera

The Washington Commanders snapped their three-game losing streak, but it was a game that won't live long in the memory.

Aesthetics count for little when you win, and for the Washington Commanders, that is exactly the thought process after their 24-16 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

In a game that didn't hit any real heights, it was a true team performance from the Commanders as they snapped their three-game losing streak.

But what did Ron Rivera think of his team's performance?

“An ugly road win,” Rivera said. “I think one of the things that really stood out more than anything else was we protected the football, and we took the football away. That gave us the opportunity more than anything else. Some things that we got to continue to work on and improve. Some of the details, we weren’t as good as we needed to be. We did our job, but we got to pay even more attention to the details because we almost got ourselves in trouble.”

Sam Howell and the Commanders snapped their three-game losing streak with a win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Sam Howell and the Commanders snapped their three-game losing streak with a win over the Atlanta Falcons.

The win moves Washington to 3-3 on the season, as the defense kept the Falcons to just six second-half points as they intercepted Desmond Ridder three times while also sacking him three times.

Offensively, Sam Howell again showed his progression as he threw three touchdown passes while completing 14 of his 23 passes for 151 yards.

While the win was good, Howell is under no illusions about what the team can do better going forward.

“We know we have a lot of stuff to clean up,” Howell said. “We know we can play better, and that’s a good football team. Atlanta is a good football team. It’s exciting when you can win, but you also didn’t play your best game.”

Washington got back on the winner's list, and in truth, it didn't matter how they did it as long as they escaped Atlanta with a win, which is exactly what they did.

With so many things to clean up moving forward, for now, the Commanders can bask in a win, albeit an "ugly" one.
