Commanders vs. Cardinals: 'Strongest' Week 1 Betting Odds Pick?

The Washington Commanders are expected to handle business against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1.

The Washington Commanders are making their final roster cuts before Tuesday's deadline as they aim to build their 53-man ahead of the regular season.

The Commanders are staying home in Week 1, as they'll be hosting the Arizona Cardinals at FedEx Field on Sunday, Sept. 10 with kickoff set for 1 p.m.

The Cardinals are widely expected to be the worst team in the NFL this season, meaning the Commanders have a solid chance at starting 1-0. And according to SportsLine's Week 1 betting odds model, Washington covering the -7 spread over Arizona is the "strongest" pick for bettors to make.

CBS Sports broke down SportsLine's betting model, pointing to that fact that the two teams are headed in opposite directions.

"One of the model's strongest Week 1 NFL picks is that the Commanders (-7) cover against the Cardinals," CBS Sports wrote. "These teams ended last season on opposite notes, with Washington going 7-4-1 down the stretch, while Arizona lost its last seven games of 2022. ... Washington is on the rise while Arizona is clearly in decline. The model has the Commanders covering in almost 60% of simulations."

The Commanders are expected to handle business against the Cardinals. After that, the going gets tough with matchups against the Buffalo Bills in Week 3 and Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4.
