The Washington Commanders travel west to meet the Denver Broncos in the Mile High City this afternoon with hopes of keeping pace with the 2-0 Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East.

Coach Sean Payton and the Broncos have completely rebuilt their offensive line in hopes of protecting quarterback Russell Wilson, who had an abysmal 2022. Denver has invested $139 million in guard Ben Powers and tackle Mike McGlinchey in order to give Wilson more time in the pocket. Wilson threw for 177 yards and was sacked twice in Denver's loss to the Raiders in Week 1, so there is still work to be done.

Things won't get easier for that Broncos offensive line as they face the improved Commanders' defense that has arguably the best tackle tandem in the league in Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne. Combine them with edge rushers Montez Sweat and Chase Young, and the Broncos could be in for a long day.

“That’s a great defensive line,” Wilson said. “They’re real forces, great competitors. I’ve got a lot of respect for them. They move really well, they’re physical, they can stop the run game. They’re really good trying to get to the quarterback, as well.”

The Commanders' front four - minus Young who missed with a neck injury - combined for 2.5 sacks and six tackles for loss, while forcing two fumbles and recovering one.

Wilson is confident in his offensive line against that Washington unit. “We’ve got a really talented offensive line. We’ve got some really big guards in there and ‘Cush’ in there, as well,” Wilson said. “So, it should be a great matchup. It will be a great challenge and a great opportunity.”
