News: Coaching Search 2020 is on, Lincoln Riley not having it

The Washington Redskins shook things up letting Jay Gruden go, but what will they do next? Can they secure Tua Tagovailoa? How about a big time head coaching hire in Lincoln Riley?

Lincoln Riley and Tua Tagovailoa lead the list of could-be 2020 Washington Redskins. With Jay Gruden no axed the search and speculation for the Redskins' next head coach will last throughout the season. Bill Callahan gets first crack as the interim head coach, but with offense all-the-rage in the NFL, the Washington brass will keep their ears to the ground for any up-and-coming offensive guru, and Riley as is in slot A-1 right now on that list. Long rumored to several NFL teams including division rival Dallas Cowboys, Riley has continued to rebuff the league, can Redskins change that?

Another option at head coach would be the Steelers' long-tenured Mike Tomlin. The odds are long here, just as with Riley, and it Tomlin's case the compensation would be outrageous. As for Tagovailoa, it all comes down to whether or not the Redskins end up with the No. 1 overall pick in 2020, but he seems about as close to a lock as possible at this point to be selected first.

Wait, but what about Dwayne Haskins? Even with Haskins, the Redskins need to consider all possible scenarios that make them better, including steering the ship toward the No. 1 pick and selecting Tuanigamanuolepola Tagovailoa. If they need an example they need look no further than what the Cardinals did in 2018-19, drafting and trading first-round pick Josh Rosen when they were able to select Kyler Murray at the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 draft. It can, and has been done. If the Redskins think it's their shot at a return to glory, then they need to get it done.

The weekly roundup on EPA from Dan Morse sees the Redskins remain steady at No. 31 overall, again ahead of only the Miami Dolphins. While the Dolphins were off on their bye week the Redskins actually put in decent work against the Patriots for one half. As has become a habit for this year's team though, they were beaten up in the second half, and their EPA stock is the proof.

Lincoln Riley 'would not consider' Washington Redskins :: Sooners Wire, JP Finlay

With Jay Gruden officially over and out, Daniel Snyder and wing-man Bruce Allen will have their hands full trying to select the next head coach of the Redskins. Bill Callahan is capable of holding down the fort, and with a strong run in 2019 could make his case to remove the 'interim' part of his interim head coach title. But with the way the game is moving right now, offense is all the rage. Lincoln Riley is the hot name to make the next jump from college to the NFL. The Oklahoma head coach doesn't seem interested in calling plays in Landover though.

The compensation would be high, extremely high. Referencing Tampa Bay's trade with Oakland for Jon Gruden in 2002, the outline is framed and its probably not worth it.

If you want a comparison, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers gave the Oakland Raiders their 2002 and 2003 first-round draft picks, 2002 and 2004 second-round draft picks, and $8 million in cash to get Jon Gruden (Jay’s older brother).

Brothers as head coaches in the NFL is a rarity, and both of the Gruden brothers now know what it's like to be fired as a head coach. Turns out, it's a family thing. Jay Gruden will be back in the league somewhere else sometime soon, likely as an offensive coordinator. But for now, Jon Gruden is feeling for him.

“Got a lot of respect for my brother obviously and disappointed for him getting fired,” Gruden said, via Jerry McDonald of the Bay Area News Group. “But my dad’s been fired, I’ve been fired, Jay’s been fired. Welcome to the club, bro.

Projected 2020 NFL draft order: Who has the No. 1 pick? :: ESPN

If the Redskins are going to 'Tank for Tua' they have some work to do. The Dolphins are awful, and for now ESPN still has them in the lead for the No. 1 pick ahead of the Redskins, despite the Redskins have one more loss already. (Miami had their bye last week.) Recent mocks have Tua Tagovailoa as the clear No. 1 QB prospect, with Justin Herbert coming in the teens. If they Redskins are going after a QB again, then they'll want to do it at No. 1.

Redskins Sign G Malcolm Bunche, LB Cassanova McKinzy To Practice Squad; Release DB Deion Harris, DE Chris Odom :: Redskins.com

The bottom of the roster churning continues; McKinzy had just been cut from the active roster on Monday, bringing him back immediately to the practice squad makes sense. He didn't even have to pack up his locker.
