Trade Dak? Fans Survey Reveals Cowboys Nation Views

The Cowboys' stated intentions are clear; they want a long-term deal with Prescott. His stated intentions are clear as well, desiring to be a "Cowboy for Life.'' And now we know what Dallas fans want, too.

FRISCO - The NFL’s window for using the franchise tag is now open, as are, a source tells us, are the talks between the Dallas Cowboys and free-agent QB Dak Prescott.

The Cowboys' stated intentions are clear; they want a long-term deal with Prescott. His stated intentions are clear as well, desiring to be a "Cowboy for Life.''

But if a trade of Dak was ever a possibility, say, because both parties thought they were at a massive stalemate? Former NFL team executive Bryan Broaddus of 105.3 The Fan reports that his survey of league officials suggests that Dallas could get "two first-round picks'' in a Prescott trade.

And more than 7,000 of you are saying, "No thanks.''

There are wild guesses about what the value of such a player would be in trade. National reporter Peter King, writing about a Dak peer in Houston QB Deshaun Watson, has guessed that it would take six premium pieces - Chase Young, another starter and three or four high picks - for, say, Washington to win the bidding on Watson.

And ESPN’s Mike Tannenbaum, a former NFL GM, suggest a Texas quarterback swap with the Cowboys pulling off a sign-and-trade with Prescott for Watson.

“They could get (Prescott) signed and they could trade him straight-up for Deshaun Watson,” Tannenbaum recently noted. “It’s player-for-player. It solves one problem for one team and another for Dallas. ... (the Cowboys) get a player who is slightly better under contract for five years.”

All of these concepts about the path of the Cowboys, who have until March 9 to make a decision on whether to use the franchise-tag designation on Prescott for the second straight season, are speculative. But Cowboys Nation, by and large, wants no part of this.

The way we phrase the question on our Fish Report YouTube Channel: Hypothetical: Would you trade Dak for 2 first-rounders? And the options are: "In a heartbeat.'' ... "Depends; do I get an immediate starter back?'' ... And "Nope, too hard to get a Dak-level guy.''

More than 7,500 votes have been cast (you can vote, too), and more than 50 percent of you vote, "Nope, too hard to get a Dak-level guy.''

As we at Sports Illustrated revealed early Tuesday, the Cowboys are optimistic about the team’s chances of reaching a long-term deal with Prescott rather than using the tag. ... and therefore seem to agree with you.

Meanwhile, a source acknowledges that Dallas is aware of stuff like Russell Wilson mentioning the Cowboys as a way of him escaping the Seahawks, but that the Cowboys are focused on the task at hand - dealing with Dak.

Just as most of Cowboys Nation wants them to.
