'Upside-Down' Dallas Cowboys: 'You Never Know' About Big Free Agency Move?

FRISCO - Here inside The Star, employees are reportedly harboring a sour feeling about a Dallas Cowboys front office that "lacks commitment.'' Maybe that's why the Dallas newspaper is pushing for the idea of the team knew that their roster needed improving after the poor playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers, but after the first week of free agency, it got worse.

Several starters and rotational players walked out the door and thus far, in terms of impact, only linebacker Eric Kendricks has been added.

All of this happened while others in the NFC East significantly strengthened their rosters, leaving the Cowboys behind despite a glaring need for roster improvement.

The scorecard is upside-down.

“As you see now, things are calming down,’’ COO Stephen Jones told reporters a few days ago. “That’s where we think you can be efficient and do good things. I think we have in the past. Trades or like did with Kendricks. I’m sure there’ll be more [players] released as move forward.

“You never know what you might see that you don’t see today.’’

Fine. But we're not holding our breath ... and when the NFL Draft comes? Cowboys Nation will be crossing its fingers ... because in a very literal roster sense, Dallas cannot afford to miss on any of its early picks.

The roster voids, and the sour views, demand it.

But otherwise? When Stephen tells us, regarding a big move, "You never know'' what will happen? Right now, frankly, we kinda think we do know.

We think we know that the scorecard will remain upside-down.
