Background:

Michael Turk, from Dallas, Texas, comes from a family of football players. His father and two uncles played in the NFL, one brother played for Notre Dame, and another brother played for Western Illinois. At Ridge Point High School, Turk became a regional champion while punting and playing Safety. In 2017, Turk attended Lafayette College, where he set the single-season record for punting average after a year in which he finished with 67 punts with a 42.9-yard average. For his success, Turk earned All-Patriot League Second Team honors. After sitting out in accordance with NCAA transfer rules, Turk accumulated 67 punts with a 46-yard average in 2019. This netted him an All-Pac 12 First Team nomination and catapulted him as a Ray Guy Award semifinalist. Turk’s 46-yard average ranked 11th in the country. In 2020, he only played in four games due to the shortened season, yet his average continued to rise to 47.2 yards per punt. In 2021, Turk transferred to Oklahoma, claimed five spots amongst the university’s highest single-game punting averages in history, made the All-Big 12 First Team, and 8 of his 35 punts go for more than 60 yards. In his final year of eligibility, Turk was once again All-Big 12 First Team and a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award while earning Academic All-Big 12 First Team for the first time. In 2022, he punted 63 times, had a 46.8-yard average, and completed 2 of 3 passes for 5 yards and 1 touchdown. Turk's punting average peaked in 2021 when he reached 51.2 yards per attempt.
