Eagles A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith Receive High Praise from Commanders S Kam Curl: 'Real Nice!'
On the field, the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders are bitter rivals who don't have a lot of love for one another.
But the players on the field share a professional respect, carved from games that sometimes predate the days when receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith were running routes for the Eagles.
One of those opponents, Commanders safety Kamren Curl, recently sat down with the Talk of the Town 918 podcast to share some professional praise about his green-clad opponents, among others.
"No. 1 off the bat, Calvin Ridley. I had to play him my freshman year," Curl said. "He different ... and then we had to play Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs, Jaylen Waddle we had to play them all three years at Arkansas ... DeVonta Smith ... A.J. Brown (is) real nice. We played Odell (Beckham Jr.) when he was (with) the Browns (and) he's like that, for real."
In two games last year, Brown was targeted a combined 14 times, bringing in six receptions for 92 yards and a touchdown while the Eagles split the season series with Washington.
His one touchdown came in a Week 3 win at FedEx Field, and in that game, his teammate Smith came down with eight catches for 169 yards and a score for himself.
Philadelphia predictably won that matchup 24-8 and advanced to 3-0 at the time.
Of course, on a fateful Monday night, the Commanders would get a small measure of revenge, but ultimately it was the Eagles who won the division and the respect of their opponents along the way.
Even then, Smith still came down with a score while being held to 39 yards receiving on six catches.
Curl is currently playing on an expiring contract and it appears from here it would be wise for Washington to retain him.
The Eagles certainly expect to get more of that first game's production out of their pair of receivers than the second.
