During the Christmas Day game against the New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles running back D'Andre Swift came close to reaching 1,000 rushing yards in a season for the first time in his career.

Swift was the bell-cow for the Eagles against the Giants, carrying the ball 20 times for 92 yards and a touchdown in a 33-25 win, but Swift wasn’t front-loading his focus on the individual stats.

D'Andre Swift rushed for his fifth touchdown of the season against the New York Giants.

"100 percent, yeah, that's a great benchmark for any running back," Swift said. "So yeah, close to it or whatever. As long as we're winning, that's really all I care about, everything else can come after."

After his performance against New York, Swift now has 988 yards on the season, putting him just 12 yards away from breaking 1,000 rushing yards. His previous career-high in a single season came in 2021, when he rushed for 617 yards in 13 games while with the Detroit Lions.

The fact that Swift is close to reaching 1,000 rushing yards for the first time in his career is a testament to how healthy and reliable he has been this season. He has played in all 15 games for Philadelphia and started in 14 of them. Never in his career has he played in more than 14 games or started in more than eight.

If Swift is able to break 1,000 rushing yards, he will be just the second Eagles running back since LeSean McCoy in 2014 to reach the mark. The other running back was Miles Sanders last season, who had 1,269 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns.

His next chance to hit 1,000 will be on New Year's Eve at Lincoln Financial Field against the Arizona Cardinals at 1 p.m.
