The Philadelphia Eagles couldn't have asked Santa Claus for a better start to their Christmas Day game against the New York Giants

After forcing a three-and-out from quarterback Tommy DeVito and the Giants, the Eagles got an early jolt on a 54-yard punt return from Britain Covey, putting them deep in opposing territory.

Running back D'Andre Swift started the offensive possession with a 12-yard run, setting the Eagles up at the one-yard line of New York. And, well, you know what happened from there. Philly quarterback Jalen Hurts followed center Jason Kelce into the end zone for a one-yard touchdown.

For Hurts, it was a record-setting touchdown. It was his 15th rushing touchdown this season, setting a single-season record among quarterbacks. A week ago, Hurts tied the record of 14 that Cam Newton set in his rookie season of 2011.

Take a look:

While the Eagles have already clinched a playoff spot, at 10-4, they're still trying to edge out the Dallas Cowboys for the NFC East title. Dallas dropped to 10-5 with a heartbreaking loss to the Miami Dolphins Sunday, so the Eagles have a chance to reclaim control of the division Monday evening.

Hurts said after Week 15's loss to the Seattle Seahawks that he doesn't think the Eagles are committed, but backpedaled on his comments earlier this week.

“My mind was in a place of really just trying to challenge myself,” he said. “I think when you think holistically about the things you want to accomplish and everything we’re trying to do, it all runs through me. It all starts with me. So, when I say we, I mean me because I’m the point guard out there, I’m the one that makes everything go, and I’m the guy everyone trusts to do and set the pace for everything.

“That’s how I play, that’s in my leadership, that’s in every aspect of the game that comes with shoes that I walk in.”
