Eagles Trade for Cardinals' Budda Baker? 'A Team to Watch,' ESPN Reports

Already featuring an elite defense, the Eagles have been named a team to watch in a potential trade for Budda Baker.

Last season the Philadelphia Eagles held opponents to 20.2 points per game, good for eighth in the NFL, on 301.5 yards of total offense per game. Simply put, their elite defense was a key reason they made a Super Bowl run.

An already elite defense could get even stronger, though, as Arizona Cardinals star safety Budda Baker has requested a trade - with ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reporting on SportsCenter that the Eagles are a team to watch.

"People I’ve talked to around the league are at least looking to Philadelphia because they have a need at safety with C.J. Gardner-Johnson leaving in free agency," Fowler said. "But my understanding is they don’t have a lot of money to spend because they signed other players, so it could be tough.”

On paper the addition of Baker to this Eagles defense would help the Eagles not miss a beat with the departure of Gardner-Johnson in free agency. Baker is a two-time All-Pro who just last season recorded 111 total tackles and a pair of interceptions.

Adding him to a top-notch unit that already boasts the best pass rush in the NFL would only further elevate the Eagles defense.

However, as exciting of an idea that Baker in Philadelphia is, it might not be feasible. Fowler's report is rather dismissive of this fact, but ... While the Eagles certainly fulfill Baker's desire to go to a Super Bowl contender, they might not be able to offer him the contract he desires.

With an extension of Jalen Hurts still looming, every other move has to slide in accordingly on the cap.

A trade for Baker between the Eagles and Cardinals? We will predict that the Eagles are likely content to work with the pieces they have and build up depth through the draft
