Falcons Still 'Best Fit' for Justin Fields Amid Kirk Cousins Rumors?

Despite increasing buzz about the Atlanta Falcons signing Kirk Cousins in free agency, they are still seen as a "fit" for Justin Fields.

With the start of NFL free agency just days away and the Draft following a few weeks after, it seems like only a matter of time before the Atlanta Falcons decide on their quarterback.

Will it be Kirk Cousins, the current Minnesota Viking and soon-to-be free agent who is increasingly being linked with a move to Atlanta? Or will the Falcons make the trade to acquire Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears? This doesn't even mention the possibility that the Falcons pass on both options to draft one instead.

However, even if the Falcons aren't the team to trade for the former Ohio State Buckeye, Bleacher Report still believes Fields is among the "most likely" players to be moved this offseason.

"The Bears can upgrade at quarterback and get another four years of having a starting quarterback on a cheap rookie contract. That makes it a fairly obvious move to deal their 25-year-old quarterback. ...

"Fields is going to make sense for any team that might not be in the best position to draft a quarterback but need a new one."

Even with the buzz surrounding the Falcons and Cousins intensifying in recent weeks, the article still lists the Falcons as a "fit" for the Bears quarterback. This makes sense, considering the roster that the Falcons have put together under general manager Terry Fontenot.

On paper, it seems the Falcons could be as close as a turnkey operation for the right quarterback, and many hope the answer could be the former Georgia native.

Three years into his NFL career, he hasn't exactly turned out the way many had hoped. The lack of development shouldn't fall squarely on Fields' shoulders. Since being selected in the first round of the 2021 draft, Fields has been part of a rebuilding team—one that, until last offseason's trade for D.J. Moore, was bereft of a top playmaker and a consistent offensive line.

That is where the case can be made for why the Falcons should trade for Fields. They can provide him with two things he didn't have in Chicago: playmakers and an offensive line.
