Upon entering the NFL as a center, Drew Dalman, the Atlanta Falcons' fourth-round pick in 2021, had limited chances on offense, making only sporadic appearances in all 17 games during his rookie season.

However, through rigorous competition last offseason, Dalman surpassed the incumbent Matt Hennessy to secure the starting center role.

In his first year as a starter in 2022, Dalman's performance presented a blend of outcomes. On the one hand, he displayed an impressive ability to lead and direct the offensive line, allowing zero sacks and showcasing the necessary agility and fluidity for head coach Arthur Smith's zone offense. However, Dalman needed help in maintaining consistent snaps. His nine penalties called against him throughout the season ranked him fourth highest among all NFL players.

Despite facing these challenges, Dalman managed to establish himself as the 14th-ranked center in the NFL, as recognized by Pro Football Focus.

"In only his second year in the league, Dalman ranked 11th among centers with a 69.5 PFF run-blocking grade," PFF writes. "There's room for improvement in pass protection, where his 27 total pressures allowed were the fifth most at the position, but if he can do that, he is set for another impressive season."

Building upon his solid 2022 campaign, Dalman will look to improve his performance as he is responsible for protecting second-year quarterback Desmond Ridder.

With Ridder taking on the role of the Falcons' starting quarterback for the first full season, Dalman's experience at the center position will be a valuable asset for the young signal-caller.
