The beginning of mandatory minicamp brought mixed emotions for Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander.

He felt a tinge of sadness as his defensive backs coach for the past three years, Jerry Gray, was absent. During the offseason, Gray accepted the assistant head coach position for the Atlanta Falcons after his contract in Green Bay expired.

"Man, I was sad - I almost shed a tear," Alexander said. "Coach Gray, he's helped me out through a lot. I mean, he's gotten me pretty much to where I'm at. I'm not saying him solely, but he's helped me out a lot. It was sad, but I'll see him again though."

Within the Packers' facility, Gray was affectionately known as "O.G." by the players, a nickname that carried profound significance. It was a well-deserved tribute to his outstanding playing career as a four-time Pro Bowl cornerback. Additionally, Gray's impressive coaching tenure, spanning 26 NFL seasons, further solidified his deserving of the moniker.

However, beyond the accolades and accomplishments, the nickname "O.G." held a deeper meaning, symbolizing the unwavering respect and admiration Gray commanded from the individuals he led.

Thus, it comes as no surprise that Alexander, the team's top cornerback, experienced a mix of emotions when he received the news of Gray's departure. As a coach who had played an indispensable role in Alexander's growth and development, the departure marked an emotional day for the Pro Bowl cornerback.

The reunion between Alexander and Gray will happen sooner rather than later, as the Packers are set to travel to Atlanta for Week 2 of the upcoming season.
