Falcons' Kyle Pitts Talks Number Change Rumors with Kirk Cousins

While the Atlanta Falcons may be preparing to target current Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins in free agency, he hasn't communicated with Kyle Pitts about the No. 8 jersey.

Despite the Atlanta Falcons being mentioned as a serious suitor for current Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins, who is set to enter free agency in a few days, there is no deal in place—nor discussions being held with a possible future teammate in tight end Kyle Pitts

During a recent appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," longtime NFL analyst and insider Mike Florio claimed that Cousins was already communicating with Pitts about potentially taking his No. 8 jersey.

However, that "report" or "rumor" started by the NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk writer has since been shut down by the Falcons tight end.

“This actually is funny you guys come up with anything,” Pitts said in a quote tweet of the Florio video.

This denial from Pitts doesn't mean the Falcons aren't interested in the veteran quarterback. Or even that Pitts wouldn't give up his No. 8 jersey for Cousins if he were to sign in Atlanta.

It just means that according to Pitts, those conversations haven't been had ... at least yet, potentially. All of which points to Florio or his source jumping the proverbial gun with this supposed revelation.

Nevertheless, the buzz surrounding the Falcons and Cousins is only intensifying as both sides await the start of free agency, which will officially kick off on March 11 at noon (EST) with the beginning of the "legal tampering" period that will be in effect until 4 p.m. on March 13.

The start of the legal tampering window will allow teams like the Falcons to contact free agents like Cousins. While no signings can be made official during this window, teams can agree to deals with free agents verbally, but will have to wait until after the 4 p.m. window on the 13th passes.

With hopes of ending their seven-year postseason drought in Year 1 under coach Raheem Morris, the Falcons could once again be spenders in free agency, which may include the signing of their next quarterback.
