Why the Delay?

The Falcons hired Morris on Jan. 25, meaning the press conference comes 11 days after the two sides officially agreed to join forces.

Brett Jewkes, an executive for the Blank Family of Business, said via X the delay stems from Morris's need to assemble a coaching staff and bring his family with him from the west coast.

Who is Raheem Morris?

Morris is already well versed with several members of Falcons media, as he spent 2015-2020 in Atlanta, including one year as pass game coordinator, four as receivers coach and another as defensive coordinator-turned-interim head coach after the firing of Dan Quinn.

During his 11-game stint as Atlanta's head coach, Morris led the Falcons to a 4-7 record after starting 0-5. He received an interview for the job thereafter, but Blank decided to hire Arthur Smith.

In the three years that followed, Morris was the Los Angeles Rams' defensive coordinator.

Why did the Falcons hire Morris?

Blank will give a deeper answer Monday, but he said the following in a statement immediately after hiring Morris:

"His time in LA has given him an enhanced perspective on everything from personnel, team operations, game planning, working with an outstanding offensive staff and many other things that has helped him develop into an even more prepared coach in all aspects of the game," Blank said.

"I believe his leadership skills have grown and his understanding of what it takes to have a highly collaborative one-team culture are now at a much higher level."

The Falcons will introduce Morris at 2 p.m. EST.
