National Prediction Round-Up: Giants Have No Chance at Christmas Miracle

The New York Giants meet the Philadelphia Eagles in the first of two meetings to happen over the final three weeks of the season.

Although the Giants (5-9) remain mathematically alive for a postseason berth, they not only would have to win out, but they'd also need a lot of help from around the league to slip into the postseason for a second straight year.

Instead, optimism from national writers isn't very high for the Giants, who are a 13.5-point underdog this week, upsetting an Eagles team that has lost three in a row. Here's a roundup of national predictions on this game:

CBS Sports

Analysis: The Eagles have lost three straight, but this is a good chance for a get-right game. The Giants are playing consecutive road games, which is always tough. It's tougher when it's against a team playing for a division title, while you are playing out the string. Look for the Eagles to bounce back here with a strong showing by Jalen Hurts.

Pick: Eagles 30, Giants 14

All team members picked the Eagles.

Sporting News

Analysis: The Tommy DeVito phenomenon will either hit its expiration date or take off exponentially in the next three weeks with two matchups against the Eagles. Philadelphia beat NFC East rivals Dallas and Washington by a combined total of eight points. If the Giants cannot generate a running game behind DeVito, then this will be much worse.

Pick: Eagles 31, Giants 17

ESPN

Storyline to watch: It's Matty Pencils versus Tommy Cutlets. Matt Patricia is in his second week as Eagles defensive play-caller after taking over for Sean Desai. He's trying to turn around a defense that ranks last on third down and 31st in passing touchdowns allowed. Quarterback Tommy DeVito has given New York a spark, tossing eight touchdown passes to three interceptions over seven games (five starts), but the Giants are coming off a 24-6 loss to the Saints in which DeVito passed for only 177 yards and was sacked seven times.

Pick: Eagles 27, Giants 13
