New York Giants Mailbag: Training Camp Edition

What's good, Doug? Given when Robinson was injured, I'd be very surprised to see him at the start of the regular season. The NFL reduced the wait time for PUP players from six weeks to four, so I would guess that the earliest we see him will be for the Giants' Week 5 game against Miami, and only if there is an injury among those receivers, they do keep to where they can fit him in.
I'm also not so sure they keep seven receivers--maybe initially they might, but I don't see that lasting beyond Week 2. But let's see how special teams plays out--that's always a deciding factor.
What's up, Charlie? Lemieux has been working with the second-team offense at center at guard. As for your second question, no, the NFL doesn't allow for the protection of practice squad players as it did during the pandemic.
Could they ask a practice squad player to give them a heads-up if another team tries to sign them? Sure, but I would think if a player has a choice between being signed to a 53-man roster where the money is greater than his weekly practice squad salary, that would be a no-brainer.
You might want to ask David Turner when he's next on the podcast since that was always his opinion of the player. (Opinions of the guests of the Locked On Giants podcast don't necessarily reflect those of the host, BTW.)
He's coming along. I want to see him in games, though. He did most of the kickoff return duty on Saturday. But again, I want to see more of his game at this level before I form a concrete opinion.
It depends on the personnel package and the situation. People get too hung up on the starters--I've seen games where the starters might play a handful of snaps only never to be heard from again the rest of the way. So for me to sit here and guess whether they'll open up in 11-personnel or 12- personnel or 22-personnel is difficult.
If you want to know who makes the roster at receiver, I think it will be Slayton, Hodgins, Campbell, Beasley, Hyatt, and Crowder gets the nod over Shepard. The Giants have a lot of slot receivers on this roster, and preference has to go to those who can also contribute on special teams.
