NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah Makes Surprising Choice for Giants in Latest Mock Draft

NFL.com's lead draft analyst, Daniel Jeremiah, has a surprise for the Giants in his latest mock draft.

Mock Draft Season is fully underway, and to date, some highly creative mocks have hit the information super highway.

Like that of NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah, who, in his second mock draft of the current season, has the New York Giants moving on from quarterback Daniel Jones in favor of LSU's Jayden Daniels, widely regarded as a top-five pick, yet someone whom Jeremiah thinks might just slide to the Giants at No. 6.

Jeremiah, who didn't do any trades in his latest mock, wrote, “I don’t make trade projections in mock drafts this early in the process, which is why Daniels is still available at No. 6. I wouldn’t rule out the Giants trying to move up for a quarterback, but in this scenario, Daniels falls into their lap.”

The top five picks before the Giants had an interesting order. Jeremiah had USC's Caleb Williams to Chicago, North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye to Washington, Ohio State receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. to New England, LSU receiver Malik Nabers to Arizona, and Notre Dame offensive tackle Joe Alt to Los Angeles.

Having two wideouts go in the top five picks hasn’t been floated around as much, especially since New England is regarded as one of the teams that needs a fresh start at quarterback. However, if this scenario were to occur, it’d be perfect for the Giants, as they’d have a top quarterback prospect fall right to them.

Daniels is coming off a stellar season at LSU, throwing for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns with only four interceptions, an incredible 10:1 touchdown to interception ratio. He can also get the job done with his legs, having rushed for 1,134 yards and ten touchdowns in 2023. He’s a playmaker, has a strong arm, and would be a great fit for the Giants offense.

The well-connected Jeremiah also stressed that he wouldn’t rule the Giants out of trying to move up for a quarterback. Giants general manager Joe Schoen has a history of making trades and knows they have attractive capital to move around the board if they’d like. He was also in the room when the Bills traded up for Josh Allen in 2018, so if he identifies Williams, Maye, or Daniels as within their reach, he won’t be afraid to inquire about trading up.

With an extra second-round pick at his disposal, if Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll both have a strong enough conviction on a quarterback, they will be aggressive in going for the brass ring.
